Make Up Your Room!!
As a parent, I try to be consistent when it comes to making up my room. You would not want unexpected company coming to your house and finding out that you live like a slob. Clean up under your bed and put away things when you can. Those of us that work for a living sometimes find it hard to do these things. The reason that I am emphasizing it again is that when you leave your house, it is not a guarantee that you will return. The ISIS inspired attack in New York City yesterday makes putting your room in order all the more important.
Five of the most unfortunate victims of yesterday's attack with a rented Home Deport truck were five friends from Argentina who were celebrating the 30th Anniversary of their graduation from high school. Who calls their families and tells them that they will be returning in caskets or body bags instead of on their regularly scheduled flights? A young Mother from Belgium was also among the eight confirmed fatalities in this attack. There was also a young New Yorker killed who was described as a software engineer with a terrific personality. There will be no more holidays with friends or plans for the future. Make up your room.
On Bastille Day, in France, a man drove a 20 ton rental truck into a crowd, killing 86 people. A Tunisian national was shot and killed by authorities after inflicting horrible carnage. At Ohio State University on November 28th, 2016, an 18 year old student carried out a car and knife attack while injuring 11 people. A Tunisian man drove a tractor into a Christmas market in Berlin. Twelve people lost their lives in this attack. London suffered two attacks that killed at least eleven people. In one instance, the attackers jumped out and stabbed people afterwards. None of these individuals knew that the day of the attacks would be their last day on earth.

These attacks have been called for by ISIS. This is the same group that just lost most of their Caliphate in Syria and Iraq. I always thought that warfare is fought on the battlefield. These killings of innocent people, happening with so much regularity, change the whole concept of war and how people study this concept. Many young men and women have answered the call of ISIS to join their ranks in various conflicts. Some have returned disillusioned. Many found their calling in a battle against western powers. I feel for the people known as Yazidis who were pillaged and plundered by ISIS militants in their quest for land and a separate kingdom. The horrific beheadings on non-believers make us all understand what is at stake.
It seems like many of the perpetrators pledge allegiance to Islam. I know many Muslims who do not share these bloody views. I just wonder where it all ends. Is there a truce that can be made? The holidays are approaching again and we are encouraged not to let terrorists win. We must carry on with out lives as death is one day a certainty for all of us. I just feel that being run down by a tractor trailer, truck or auto is an unfortunate reality of the world that we live in. Extreme vetting will not reveal the danger that lies behind a radicalized individual anywhere in the world. My best advice for those of us trying to navigate this dangerous world that we live in: Make Your Room!!
