Merry Christmas 2017
I am up listening to ESPN radio on Alexa. I stayed in the house yesterday and savored the silence of Christmas Day. We had a Christmas Eve gathering that was really nice. The day started with Lynne and her friend Frank stopping by for lunch. I fried fish. Julius made grits and biscuits. We exchanged gifts and had a good time talking and laughing. Mom Bell came over for a few minutes. We then began to prepare for the visitors in the evening.
I listened to a variety of Christmas stations this year. I-Heart Radio was the go to for Christmas Jazz. WDAS always plays the classics leading up to Christmas Day. I also played Ashanti's Christmas and listened to the Motown Classics with the Jackson 5 singing Frosty the Snowman. Reggie Wallace was a big help to me in preparing for guests by prepping food and assisting with dishes. Leah and Lorae stopped by. I was surprised by this. It was really Christmas weather too. Cold and brisk. They said we had a little snow but I wasn't up to view it.
I was saddened by some terrible news the day before Christmas Eve. Denise Wallace is currently in the hospital. She has surgery on Friday to remove a brain tumor. Kevin and Michelle Wallace were really serious about the uphill struggle that Denise is currently facing. I am going to make it a point to visit her today. My Brother Gary succumbed to brain cancer in 2014. We all have to be thankful for health and work to live a productive life. We never know when health issues can derail our best laid plans. Get better soon Denise.
I called my brother Brian last week. He will not make it home for Christmas. Thank goodness for his church family in DC. He had heart surgery earlier this year. He has a machine that monitors the beating of his heart. He travels a little and for short periods of time. He is never here for more than a day. I am going to try to visit in January. My cousin Moses King, his wife and my Aunt Carrie stopped by on Saturday. They were up here from Richmond, VA for a funeral. My cousin Salombra was in town also. I did not get a chance to see her. I am going to send my niece Jasmine a card today.

The Eagles beat the Raiders last night to secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Nick Foles looked terrible while the game was being played. He acted like Zach Ertz was the only receiver on the field. He overthrew short passes and underthrew long passes. We are probably going to be in trouble in the playoffs. I hope not though. The Sixers beat the Knicks yesterday during the opening of Christmas Day match ups. We win with Joel Embiid but 'the Process' is not working well this year. Robert Covington signed a $62 million contract and cannot hit the side of a barn, Markelle Fultz is a bust. We should have never traded Jahlil Okafor. Brett Brown is not a good coach in my opinion.
I will enjoy the rest of my week off. I am going to the Library today. I will catch a movie at the Ritz before the week is over. I might have to wear my long johns. As they used to say, The Hawk is Talking, indicating that temperatures are plummeting. Rest in Peace Reds from 15th & Manton. I heard on Facebook that he passed away. I did not hear anything about a funeral. We also lost Carolyn 'Rae" Fluellen this year. That was a shock. I look forward to my job and the challenges that I will face next year. I thank God for the ability to be able to pay bills and help my Family. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!
