The House Music Festival was Awesome!!
It is Sunday morning and I am listening to gospel music on App Radio. My granddaughter will be going back to Coatesville after a two week visit. I finished up a great vacation week which included two days in Atlantic City, seeing The Incredibles, July 4th activities on the Parkway, a visit to Harrah's Casino, Cooper River Park and finishing three books. It was a wonderful staycation. One of the highlights of my week was the House Music Festival that was also in Atlantic City.
I was excited about this event anyway because a couple of my good Friends were going to be in town for the event. Michael Fielder, Darryl Hudson and Lance Chase had all decided to come in town at the behest of Troy Johnson. I met these Brothers during my undergrad days at Howard University and we have remained Friends for life. After attending a Homegoing service for Norman Myers this year I have made it a priority to get together with my Homeys to celebrate living.
There were some moments of trepidation leading up to this event. The venue was changed from The Landshark Bar to the Chelsea to two other locations. It finally took place at the Beach on New Hampshire Avenue. This was after I was taken to Gardener's Basin by the Jitney Driver. I wasn't going to get frustrated because I had just begun my vacation. I visited the new Hard Rock Cafe and had plans to visit the reopened Revel. I also took in some sightseeing on the Boardwalk while awaiting my Friends. I also stopped by the beach on the Inlet and savored the memories we would make on our trip there on Sunday.

Upon entering the venue I was impressed by the size of the crowd. People were spread out in all directions on the beach. Secondly, I was amazed by the size of the speakers. The DJ's were ready for action. House music is different than what you would listen to if you are in to R & B. There were no Drake or Beyonce songs. There were extended riffs by artists that I will have to research. What is different for me is that it doesn't seem like you ask anyone to dance. You just find a location and go with the rhythm. I did my share of people watching but I was feeling the music and went on extended solo vibes by myself. The DJ' were going hard. There were announcements about an after party but I had to catch a NJ Transit bus back to Philly and I was on my was as the darkness descended.
I met a guy on the way to the station who was as exasperated as I was trying to find the venue. He was from Jersey and talked about an upcoming event in the Garden state on July 21st. He said that these events are common in NJ and NY. I was happy that it was a peaceful event with hundreds of happy people just vibing to the music. I will put House Music on my agenda. We are usually Jazz fans during the summer months. We just attended a Stanley Clarke concert right after partying at the Clifford Brown Festival in Wilmington. I am enjoying the summer so far. The House Music Festival is at the top of my list of great events so far.
