Leaving the Paris Accord was disregarding Facts!!
Global warming, also referred to as climate change, is the observed century-scale rise in the average temperature of the Earth's climate system and its related effects. Former U.S. Vice President produced a documentary called 'An Inconveient Truth'. It was produced in 2006 and grossed almost $24 million dollars. The movie was credited with raising international public awareness of global warming and energizing the environmental movement. As we are in the middle of searing August temperatures on the east coast, I wonder how Scott Pruitt was even confirmed as the former leader of the Environmental Protection Agency.
California now has 16 active fires going on. The Mendocino complex fire currently consists of two fires - the Ranch Fire and the River Fire. The fire has currently burned 75 residences. The Carr Fire has claimed 7 lives farther north in the state. In a state of emergency, President Trump has blamed the state for diverting water to the ocean. This is a ludicrous statement. California voted Democratic and is fiercely protective of its environment. They have strict emission controls for automobiles. Unbelievably, Republicans are trying to weaken emission regulations for new cars produced by 2020. We are in a fight for our lives and this administration is unashamedly trying to reverse any Obama era legislation. Do we not all breathe the same air?
The Paris Agreement is an agreement within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It was negotiated by 196 state parties at the 21st Conference of the Parties and adopted by the consensus on December 12th, 2015. There are some countries that have planned to ban petrol and diesel powered cars. The long term goal is to slow down the increase in global average temperatures. President Trump just left Paris to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of World War I. He clashed, once again, with world leaders and especially President Macron. Mr. Trump has declared himself a 'nationalist'. He will go it alone, in his own mind, on making deals with regard to climate change and nuclear treaties.
Hurricane Michael is the latest example of storms that are more powerful than ever. Panama City and Mexico Beach, Florida were devastated by this storm. Hurricane Michael was the third most intense storm to occur after Labor Day since 1935. The mental stress of people who have lost everything is the lingering effect. Where do you go? What is your familiar anymore. President Trump recently threatened to cut off aid to Puerto Rico in the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Irma. He refused to believe that almost 3,000 people died as a result of this natural disaster. People are living in houses with no roofs. People are dying because they don't have electricity to power dialysis machines. Oceans are rising and glaciers are melting. What was the deal that President Trump had in mind when he pulled the USA out of the Paris Accord? We haven't seen it yet.
The world's nine warmest years wince temperatures have been recorded have all occurred since 2005. Global average temperatures have been increasing steadily for the last 150 years. I attribute much of the change to gasoline use. Planes, trains and automobiles are producing pollution and emitting carbon dioxide at rapid rates. We are also polluting the ocean at rates that haven't been seen. California, once again in the throes of a major set of fires, is fighting back against the deregulation of fuel standards. Scott Pruitt was ousted from the EPA because he was beholden to the auto industry and coal producers. Coal is dying and cleaner fuel has to be the way to go. I hope the other countries that have signed on to the Paris Accord continue addressing climate change in the absence of the USA.
